Duplex Route for The Orient

October 2011 – The Orient is emerging in the centre of the Transvaal area of the Hague: 100 family homes and flats situated around three linked inner squares. The structure and the architecture of the project were inspired by the Oriental culture that is such a feature of the area. For example, on the outer walls of the buildings, there are more than 100 decorative pinnacles, each 3.5 metres tall, providing The Orient with its distinctive silhouette. The pinnacles, together with a range of decorative fencing components, were treated using the Duplex Route: hot-dip galvanising by Verzinkerij Wolvega, followed by powder coating at Poedercoating Wolvega.

A temple in Bali was the source of inspiration for the chemicals that architect Wilfried van Winden (WAM architects) added to the facades. In combination with the glazed stones along the edges of the roof, the pinnacles are the crowning touch of The Orient.

Pinnacles galvanised and powder coated

The Orient project was developed and built by ERA Contour from Zoetermeer. The decorative fencing and pinnacles, each 3.5 metres tall, were made from a combination of strip steel and sheet steel. They were produced by Derks & Zn from Harmelen. They were then processed in the Duplex Route, the total concept of galvanisation and powder coating provided by Verzinkerij Wolvega and Poedercoating Wolvega, not only providing the fencing and pinnacles with sustainable protection against the elements, but also providing the area with an identity entirely of its own.
